Chemical Peels

O’Connell Dermatology offers chemical peels which are used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. There is no anesthesia required, and the entire procedure takes no more than 15 minutes for the alphahydroxy and the tricholoracetic peels, and a little over an hour for the phenol peel. Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. Depending on the severity of skin issues, skin type, and desired outcome, one of the following chemical peel solutions can be applied:

  • Phenol: our strongest compound, providing the deepest peels
  • Trichloroacetic acid: best for peels of a medium depth, this takes care of finer wrinkles and blemishes
  • Alphahydroxy acid: this is our lightest and most popular chemical peel, as it requires no recovery time
